You will be hosted in old farmhouses converted in beautiful traditional Agriturismi to offer you an authentic experience of local rural life. They all offer a welcoming environment and clean and comfortable double rooms with en-suite – there is a supplement of €150 for the single occupancy room.
All meals are made with locally produced food and will offer you an experience of the typical Sicilian cuisine. Lunch will consist in a picnic with sandwiches, while breakfast and dinner will be served at the farmhouses where you will be staying. Dinner will consist in several courses and include local produced wine. A vegetarian and vegan meal option is available on request.
Luciano, Sergio and Selene will be your hosts and guides. They are local equestrian guides with years of experience working with horses and organising trails in the area. They have a strong passion for horses and their territory, and will proudly show you what beautiful Sicily has to offer. They speak English and French.

Arrival and overnight at Tenuta Luogo Marchese, Pollina. There will be a welcoming dinner with a presentation of the guides and the trail.
After breakfast, you will be assigned a suitable horse and be able to choose between English and Western saddle. The trail will start at about 8.30am and bring you to the countryside around Castelbuono, a charming medieval town rich in history and traditions. Castelbuono was for centuries the administrative headquarters of Ventimiglia barons, among the most powerful feudal aristocrats of the island. The ride will travel up the river Pollina and its tributary Rainò, in the territories of San Mauro Castelverde and Geraci Siculo covered with bush and scrub alternating semi-abandoned fields of ancient olive trees, notorious for the legendary exploits of bandits and outlaws who infested the area in the late 19th century. After a a lovely picnic with local products, you will ridenacross forests and arrive in the afternoon at Casalvecchio Geraci. This is a beautiful farmhouse sitting on the banks of the river Raino’ and recently restored in a welcoming Agriturismo. The day will end with a hearty dinner made of local organic products and a good night of rest in the peaceful Sicilian countryside.
Early breakfast and ready to start the ride at 8am. Through an old track called “trazzera” you will reach Gangi, a typical medieval village among the most beautiful in Italy (awarded in 2014) at about 1000 meters above sea level. You will then enter the territory of Petralia, crossing characteristics villages until you reach Blufi. Here there is an outcrop of oil, for centuries considered miraculous where you will stop for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, the ride continues towards Resuttano, crossing the river Imera and passing through semi-abandoned ancient farms, fields and pastures. In the late afternoon the arrival at Feudo Tudia, an old farmhouse within a very suggestive agricultural village almost completely uninhabited. You will spend the night here after a delicious dinner with local products.
Breakfast and departure from Feudo Tudia at around 8,30. Today’s ride will bring you through organic vineyards, fields of typical Sicilian crops and on the “royal trazzere”, routes established by the Bourbon government in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to ensure the free movement across the island. You will then pass the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Bilici, the Train Station of Marianopoli, and an eucalyptus forest today part of a private game reserve. In the afternoon, the arrival in Mappa, the ancient residence of Prince Spadafora where you will stay overnight and enjoy a sumptuous dinner.
Breakfast and departure from Mappa at around 8am. The ride starts across endless fields to bring you to he charming ancient town of Sutera. This is considered one of the oldest settlements in human history and treasures several prehistorical remains. You will ride across the town, stop shortly and continue the ride into the valley of the river Platani, one of the major rivers of western Sicily. You will pass through the picturesque nature reserve of Monte Conca, enjoy a picnic there and continue riding through the valley up to our last stop for the day: the farmhouse Duca di Pietra Tagliata, beutifully restored to host you for dinner and night.
Breakfast and departure around 8.30am directed to Sant’Angelo Muxaro. This is another fascinating little town of early origins that would have been the seat of Kokalos, king of Sicans, mysterious indigenous people that inhabited the island before the Greeks and Sicules. You will walk along the prehistoric tombs carved into the rock at the base of the town, some of which have been turned into stables during centuries. There will be a tour of the town and a demonstration of ricotta cheese production with the opportunity to taste fresh ricotta! You will stop in a eucalyptus wood for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, the ride will bring you to visit the Tower of Anjou, an ancient aristocratic mansion of the thirteenth century, and an old abandoned sulphur mine. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the farm Principe di Aragona.
Breakfast and departure around 8am. The ride starts through an agricultural area near the town of Aragona to arrive at Macalube. This is a natural reserve where the curious resurfacing of methane gas carries up clay mud and creates small craters, shaping a unique surreal landscape You will continue in the direction of Agrigento, the ancient Agrakas, founded by people originating in the islands of Crete and Rhodes around 580 BC. Short stop for a picnic nearby the typical village of Monte Aperto. In the afternoon, you will ride in the direction of the Valley of Temples where you will enjoy a guided tour of the monuments. This is a vast archaeological site with well-preserved Greek temples and the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas listed in among the UNESC World Heritage Sites. This week wonderful adventure will end at the seaside, in the animated village of SanLeone with a dinner in a prestigious fish restaurant. The night will be at the B&B L’Approdo.
Breakfast and departure – A chance to visit Agrigento city centre and the Archeological Museum if you spare time before your flight.
