Horseback riding in Abruzzo

Pick one of our horse riding holidays in Abruzzo and discover the greenest region in Europe! Abruzzo is a little-known treasure of Central Italy, a pretty wild area with one third of its territory set aside as national parks and nature reserves. It stretches from the Apennines mountains to the Adriatic Sea, offering a wide range of landscapes from majestic high peaks, to cultivated hills and beaches.  It is home to 75% of Europe’s living species, including some rare animals, such as the Golden Eagle, Abruzzo chamois, Apennine wolf and Marsican brown bear, and many rare and endemic plants.

This captivating land is nowadays a rare example in Italy of a careful protection of natural resources, cultural and historical heritage perfectly combined with economical development and sustainable tourism. Its land is lowly populated and scattered with picturesque medieval villages, churches and hermitages. People still live here in a traditional way keeping alive a strong culture and historical heritage. The delicious cuisine is rich in pasta e meaty dishes perfectly combined with famous local wines such as the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Sangiovese or Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.

RidingItaly offers you horse riding holidays in the heart of the Majella National Park. This is an impressive mountainous area considered to be the most inaccessible and wildest of the Central Apennine. The Park hosts 9-10 wolves packs for a total of 80-100 individuals, a density higher than the one in the Yellowstone Park. Our rides will bring you on pastures, lush woodlands and majestic mountain peaks spotting wildlife and enjoying spectacular views.

Horseback riding in Majella National Park also includes cultural and historical visits to hermitages, churches and villages and meals based on local and traditional food. We offer long trails, horse riding adventures tracking wolves, rides in the snow at winter time, and a fantastic horse carriage tour for the whole family. The Majella National Park is the perfect location to immerse yourself into nature, getting to know Abruzzo rich history and culture while travelling on horseback in a sustainable way!

For the Huffington Post Abruzzo is one of the World’s best places to live or retire:

This region is one of Italy’s secret treasures. No over-crowding, no heavy industry, only castles, vineyards, and villages made of stone. Life in the Abruzzo hasn’t changed much over the years, and exploring here is like wandering into a gentler, kinder yesterday, a time with little or no crime and neighbors who watch out for one another.
